Devlog 11: RUST and lore drop
It's 8:30 AM on day eleven, and I've been spending a lot of time thinking about the "industrial isolationist" side of the world. I haven't talked about them much yet because they're a bit more grounded than the glowing plants or the gold-suited surveillance freaks, but they're a huge piece of the puzzle. I'm calling them the Armada.
Think of them as the guys who saw the world crashing and just decided to build a giant, floating fortress and wait it out. They aren't trying to "fix" the Null like ECO, and they aren't trying to "delete" it like ANCHOR. They just want to harvest it. To them, the black goop and white shards are just a new kind of fuel. It’s a very cynical, "business as usual" approach to the end of the world, which I think adds a nice layer of grit to the five-way cold war.
I was sketching some of their tech this morning. It’s all heavy, rusted metal held together by glowing yellow Null-piping. It’s a very different look from Minus’s jagged, organic corruption. When the Armada uses the Null, they bottle it up in these heavy canisters and force it to power their engines. It’s dangerous as hell, obviously, but they don't care as long as the ships stay in the air.
This is where characters like Onyx and Spark come in. They’re basically the freelancers caught between these massive moving parts. I'm picturing a scene where the Armada tries to "reclaim" a sector that Minus and Specter are hiding in, not because they care about the lore or the "terminal error," but just because they want the raw materials in the ground.
It’s making me realize that the biggest threat in FRAGMENT isn't just the Anomaly entity or the infection itself—it’s the fact that nobody can stop fighting long enough to actually look at the system logs. Everyone’s so busy trying to win their version of the world that they’re going to let the whole thing get wiped.
I’m still hoping to find some people who want to help bring this to life visually. The contrast between a clean ANCHOR drone and a rusted Armada harvester would look so cool in that high-contrast style. Anyway, back to the grind. I’ve got some more ideas for the Armada’s leadership that I need to get down before I lose the thread. Catch you guys tomorrow morning.
